20th-Oct-2009 06:30 pm - umm....what?
redheads
So apparently my mother thinks I will end up marrying my ex.  Who's not really an ex.  If that makes sense.  We had one of those friendships that everyone thought was more than that but never quite got there.  Then he went away for a post-grad diploma.  And is now wandering the world somewhere.  WTF MOM!  Thanks for putting that one in my head.

So I bit the bullet and signed up for one of those online dating sites.  Not meeting anybody the old fashioned way and really I communicate better virtually than in person (particularly with people I don't know well).  I know people who have met people online and I know people who had nothing but disaster.  We'll see.  Frankly I'm tired of being single and want kids - soon.

So far I had a bunch of "let's chat" when I first signed up.  Now I get nothing.  Don't know if I need a more attractive profile or what but I'm working on it.  I'm also the type of girl that if I see someone who looks interesting I'll write them instead of waiting for some dude to take the bull by the horns and write me.  Hopefully write more than "just chat" because let's face it - I'm not writing them back.

I've decided to approach it like a job search - I'll look every day and write to someone at least every few days.  I'll get some lemons, some ignoring and hopefully some hits.  So far I haven't gotten many hits but I only started writing like 2 days ago.  There was one guy who did write me back - then he cancelled his account!  Enough to give a girl a complex I think.

Then there was the guy who wanted someone smart, who would understand his computer lingo and find his xkcd t-shirts funny.  And be super hot.  He wants the mythical dorky supermodel.  I have news for him - you're going to have to revise your expectations there buddy.

So I'll update my livejournal with my online dating journey.  I feel the need to share my stories but can't really broadcast it on my facebook page now can I.
25th-Jan-2009 10:33 pm - Boot Camp Part 2
redheads
So I'm doing something called the lifestyle challenge a week and a half ago. One part of it is boot camp every Sunday night. Last Sunday was the first and my legs hurt for 3 days after! My arms only hurt for one. Tonight was boot camp part 2 where we did arms to die for. And now I can't lift my arms!
7th-Dec-2008 10:50 pm - Dates that live in infamy

There are 2 that come to mind.

1.  September 11, 2001.  Things happening in the world rarely affect where I live.  We usually watch these world changing events from the tv screen.  On Sept 11 US flights were grounded sending transatlantic flights that were in the air to Eastern Canadian airports - including the one near where I live.  Plane after plane touched down in my province with thousands of confused travellers.  For the first time I saw armed police at the airport and it really hit home that this event was going to change everything.

2.  August 31, 1997.  The death of Princess Diana was the first time I had an event where you remembered where you were when you heard.  My parents always remembered where they were when they heard JFK had been shot.  This was that event for my generation.

I was bringing my car to get serviced the other night and saw two guys doing cartwheels across a busy street.  Naked.  And I'm pretty sure they were cold.  Otherwise I just felt bad for 'em.

Many beloved television shows are no longer with us, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Six Feet Under, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. What defunct television show do you miss the most?

Oh Buffy how I miss you!

Of course there are lots of shows that I miss.  Unfortunately most of them outlived their welcome so their demise was more a cry of relief than a cry of anger at a particular network (Heroes I'm looking at you!).  Buffy, X-Files and West Wing all went on far past their best before dates.  Although I'm more inclined to forgive Buffy as the later seasons had decidedly more Spike.

Of course some cancellations make a person mad at the universe - Arrested Development anyone?  That is the funniest comedy ever imo.  I hope the movie gets made so we can see what happened to the Bluth's.  And get some chicken dancing.

3rd-Dec-2008 11:39 pm - about me

Most of the journals I subscribe to are entertainment so obviously I am a bit of a junky.  I was off the tv for ahile but I seem to be back on...must be winter and all that cold and ice outside.  That and my new flatscreen with the HD digital box.

I was a Sylar/Elle shipper on Heroes but the writers have screwed that over.  Although frankly I wasn't surprised as love never ends well on Heroes (just ask Caitlain!).  The writers of that show seem to have no sense of direction at all.  Its all well and good to kill characters off (look at Lost!) but at least kill them with some purpose.  Have it mean something.  Lost kills off the heros (Charlie) but we're not left with the sense of a meaningless death like Elle (I know she's not dead yet but I think its pointing that way).
